Original manuscript of chapter 49 of A tramp abroad, Samuel L. Clemens's (Mark Twain's) account of his sojourn of nearly a year and a half in Europe, written in the form of a burlesque walking tour. In this text, the author visits the tourist attractions of Venice, Italy, and comments on the relative merits and European and American cuisines. Includes 2 short paragraphs not included in the published version. With numerous revisions, deletions, and marginal notes. Paginated 2091-2132 by Clemens and the chapter number has been changed from "60" to "49" by him. Includes pencilled notes on first and final leaves by bibliographer Merle Johnson.
